José Antonio y María en el Camino de Santiago

The Way of José Antonio and María: Huelva, Sarria and Santiago

Hello, pilgrims. Our names are José Antonio and María, and we are mother and son. We live in Andalusia, in the town of Manzanilla (Huelva).

The first time we did the Way of Saint James was in 2017. It all came about overnight, but we liked the experience so much that we repeated it, and now we are going to do it for the third time.

Our first route was the French Way. We arrived by bus in Sarria, and that’s where our adventure began. We looked for hostels stage by stage we decided not to hire anything and to improvise.

Like we are mother and son, we attracted a lot of attention. We talked to many other pilgrims and ended up becoming famous. I wore my Betis scarf, and the others called me “el bético”. It was unforgettable.

That first walk, we were so lucky because it didn’t rain. When we arrived together at Obradoiro Square, it was incredible.

We repeated it!

The experience was so beautiful that the following year we repeated it. This time we chose the Portuguese Way. We started from Tui, and it was amazing.

This year, for the third time, mother and son are going to repeat the Way, this time the northern one. Our new adventure together will start in Ribadeo, and with eight stages, we hope to reach Santiago de Compostela.

Greetings, pilgrims.

José Antonio and María
